Anyone at Old Trafford for the 3rd round F.A. Cup tie against Aston Villa who doubts that Henrik Larsson is an inspired signing must have had his eyes closed.
It took the 35 year old just minutes to create the illusion that this was not in fact his debut and he had actually been a United player for years. He linked brilliantly with Rooney and Ronaldo, his movement was intelligent and a constant worry to Villa’s defenders and he came very close to scoring before he put United ahead in the 55th minute, slotting the ball home calmly despite the attention of three Villa players.
It was no surprise that when he was substituted late on, he left the field to a standing ovation from a crowd convinced that he can play a major part in Manchester United’s push for the Premiership and other honours. And as an added bonus, he can probably help Wayne Rooney, who is stuttering a little right now, to rediscover his form.
