Keane Loses It
One of the most embarrassing aspects of Spurs’ comprehensive Carling Cup semi-final defeat by Arsene Wenger’s talented young Gunners was the demeanour of Robbie Keane.
Despite the fact that the second leg at the Emirates Stadium was expertly controlled by Alan Wiley, surely now the best referee on the Premiership list, the hot-headed Irishman spent most of the game carping about almost every decision. Fortunately for him, Mr Wiley chose to exercise a benevolent tolerance and spared him the two yellow cards he deserved – though doubtless there are many Spurs fans who will consider that since his childish behaviour effectively prevented him from making a meaningful contribution, dismissal might have been a kinder and more profitable option.
And anyone who seriously questions that should reflect upon the impact of Mido after his introduction as a sub, which had most of the crowd wondering why Jol hadn’t included him in the starting line-up.
