You Lucky People

There’s no getting away from it, Jose Mourinho, manager of Chelsea and self-styled ‘Special One’, is absolutely right. Manchester United are lucky.

Lucky to be 9 points clear of boring boring Chelsea. Lucky to have a tradition of success that stretches back for decades. Lucky to have Sir Alex Ferguson, a better manager than Mourinho will ever be and a man who is happy to let his titles do the talking. Lucky to be able to play attractive, exciting, entertaining football of a kind that seems to be beyond Chelsea, even with the benefit of Abramovic’s millions. Lucky to have players of the calibre of Cristiano Ronaldo, whose talent comfortably eclipses anything available at Stamford Bridge. Lucky that they can win matches even when they aren’t at their magical best – as they did against Fulham.

And lucky that they know enough about the game to treat Mourinho’s futile and arrogant posturings with the contempt they deserve.
