The Mark of Hypocrisy
What do you call a man who, having sanctimoniously lectured a distinguished rival manager on the correct way to behave towards match officials in order to preserve the best traditions of the game, waits seething on the touchline at full time in order to berate a referee for decisions given against his team?
The word ‘hypocrite’ springs to mind – accompanied, on this occasion as on many others, by the image of Blackburn Rovers boss Mark Hughes, thin lipped and snarling, drowning in a sea of dissent. And somewhere else entirely, the prospect of Arsene Wenger watching a match at Ewood Park on television, with a quiet smile on his face.
