Andy and His Favourite Drawer
Football has indeed been kind to Andy Gray. Having made a pretty decent living as a brave, no-frills centre forward who specialised in headed goals, he’s now well established as Sky’s resident expert on the game – a sort of high priest of football without portfolio, but with the wide-eyed admiration of presenter Richard Keys, whom he is educating.
Sometimes he gives the impression that his mission is to educate us all and, while his English is improving and much of what he has to say is interesting, the listener is often distracted by his irritating tendency to describe anything half decent as “top drawer”.
However many other drawers there are, as far as Mr Gray is concerned they are so insignificant as to be unworthy of mention.
Odd, to say the least.
