Three Into 23 Will Go!
Arsenal’s Theo Walcott is unlikely to forget Monday 8th May 2006, the day his selection for the England World Cup Squad was announced, or the fact that his inclusion was strongly recommended by his manager, Arsene Wenger.
Naturally there are those, even within the game, who will profess astonishment at this decision by Sven Goran Eriksson. Alan Mullery, for example, speaking on Sky television, could find no justification for it. But then again, Alan Mullery couldn’t manage Arsenal, could he?
It’s worth noting that Sven’s squad also contained the names of experienced internationals Ashley Cole and Sol Campbell. Congratulations to them too.
That makes three Arsenal players in the 23. Should that trigger a memo to Alan Pardew, together with a note of thanks for beating the enemy and a good luck message for the F.A. Cup final?
