Learning the Hard Way
According to reports, Shaun Wright-Phillips has ‘no regrets’ about his move to Chelsea which, he claims, will make him “a wiser player and a better player” and “It will show in the time to come.”
The question is, how much time? The player who joined Chelsea from Manchester City had begun to establish himself, not only in the Premiership but on the international scene. Now, after one season at Stamford Bridge, he has a handful of appearances to his credit and when the England party jets off to Germany for the World Cup finals, he will not be among them. He has Robben, Duff and Cole ahead of him in the pecking order at his club and he seems to have disappeared off Sven’s radar, which is easy when you spend much of the season on the bench.
Whichever way you look at it, the ‘lessons’ he is learning at Chelsea come at a very high price and there are many good judges who consider that had he gone elsewhere, he would be flying now. To Germany for a start.
