Martyn Calls it a Day
A word of appreciation for Everton goalkeeper Nigel Martyn, who at 39 has called time on an illustrious playing career as a result of a chronic ankle injury.
Youd waste a lot of precious time trying to find someone who has a bad word to say about Nigel, who has been for many seasons one of the most popular and professional players in the Premiership.
Born in Cornwall, he began his career with Bristol Rovers and after moving to Crystal Palace, he soon attracted the attention of Leeds United, for whom he signed in 1996. He went on to earn 23 caps for England and after the rise of Paul Robinson deprived him of a regular place at Elland Road, he began a resurgent career with Everton that ran to 100 appearances and made him a firm favourite with the fans.
