O Sole Mio
Surprise, surprise. Sol Campbell, who claimed that he had “nothing left to prove” in this country and he was leaving Arsenal to pursue a new career challenge abroad, couldn’t quite make it across the English Channel.
But he got as close as he could – Portsmouth – and his new boss Harry Redknapp is absolutely delighted to have signed a player he described as “strong”, “experienced” and “just the type we need” on a free transfer, courtesy of Arsenal, who were under the misapprehension that he was emigrating.
Harry’s right. Campbell is a good player. And at a reported £40,000 a week, it will be interesting to see if he can get any more games out of the injury prone 31 year old centre back than Arsenal did.
