New Hammers Disappoint

West Ham fans had their first chance to see new signings Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano in Argentina’s none too friendly ‘friendly’ against arch enemies Brazil at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium.

So how did they do? In their different ways they both demonstrated that they could be a force in the Premiership, though neither played particularly well or lasted the whole game. Tevez is short, stocky, strong, aggressive and far from pretty and apart from one far post header, he always looked more likely to start a fight than score a goal. As for Mascherano, you can see that he has presence, composure, power and vision. He could be a commanding figure in midfield, but on this occasion he wasn’t.

Hammers fans can only hope that when they get to the Premiership, they hit the ground running. After all, there’s no knowing how long they’re going to be around.
