Bullard Injury Takes Gloss Off Win

After a sensational start to the season with his new club, Fulham midfielder Jimmy Bullard, one of the most popular and widely respected players in the Premiership, was stretchered off at St James’ Park with a serious knee injury when his foot got caught in the pitch as he was challenged by Scott Parker. The Newcastle United captain, to whom no blame whatsoever is attached for the accident, was visibly shaken by the incident and he subsequently went to great lengths to enquire after his opponent – an attitude which does him enormous credit.

Despite the loss of the influential Bullard, Fulham emerged with an away win that few people would have predicted, thanks to two goals in the last ten minutes from Brian McBride and Carlos Bocanegra which cancelled out the home side’s lead from Parker’s headed goal.
