Reading fans must be thinking that they came so close to victory against Manchester United, it’s a pity there wasn’t something they could have done to swing the balance in their favour.

Actually, there was – they could have made better use of Leroy Lita, simply by playing to his strengths rather than his weaknesses. Lita is stocky. Lita is strong. But what Lita is not is tall. On the other hand, Manchester United’s centre backs, Ferdinand and Vidic, are conspicuously tall – though arguably not as strong as Lita and possibly not as quick.

So what on earth was the point of humping all those high balls up to Lita?
