Rooney Impresses

There is much scope for justifiable criticism after England’s debacle against Croatia, but none of it should be directed against Wayne Rooney.

Despite a wretched run of form recently and a woeful lack of decent service from a reshaped England midfield, Rooney worked tirelessly and with outstanding commitment for the whole game and came closer to scoring than any other player in the side, when his 53rd minute shot from 15 yards soared narrowly over the bar.
