The Age of Elegance
It’s a sad reflection of the inability of a number of sports journalists that they chose to focus on the 20+ chances Arsenal missed in their European Champions League game against CSKA Moscow at The Emirates Stadium, rather than the quality of the Gunners’ football.
As far as Arsene Wenger is concerned, this was the best performance from an Arsenal team during his 10 years at the club. But he’s wrong because actually it was much better than that. This was football of a purity that defies description and if you find that difficult to believe, try. It was breathtaking. Sublime. Sensational. Inventive. Imaginative. Glorious. Magical. Poetic. Incomparable. All of the above and yet, so much more than the above.
No-one who just a few months ago lamented the loss of Bergkamp, Pires, Campbell and, yes, even Cole would have believed that in such a short time Arsene Wenger could produce a team capable of playing football that was so inspired and inspiring. And when the finishing matches everything else, it will be perfection.
Whatever you do, don’t bet against it.
