Spurs Beat the Champions
Congratulations to Martin Jol’s Spurs, who proved that you don’t have to capitulate when you go one down to the Chelsea machine – in this case a Makelele volley from 25 yards, which in itself is something of a collector’s item.
And you can ignore the Chelsea excuses about John Terry’s 71st minute red card being decisive, because by that point Spurs were already 2-1 up, thanks to Dawson’s header (his first goal for the club) and a 51st minute gem from Aaron Lennon, who controlled Robbie Keane’s cross beautifully, beat Ashley Cole (again) and calmly placed the ball inside the far post.
In fact, if Spurs had taken all their chances, the victory would have been more emphatic.
