National Award for Theo

Congratulations to Arsenal’s teenage star Theo Walcott, who has been named BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year.

Given his outstanding talent, his mature professionalism and his achievements since he joined Arsenal from Southampton, it’s easy to see why. He was a member of England’s World Cup squad in Germany and it wasn’t his fault that Sven Goran Eriksson didn’t have the bottle to select him. He is a regular player, and scorer, in the England Under 21 side. He made his Premiership debut as a substitute in the 1-1 home draw against Aston Villa at The Emirates Stadium in August, and since then he has featured in both Premiership and Champions League fixtures.

And there’s every indication that where Theo is concerned, there is a lot more to come.
