Forward Planning is the Key
Rumour has it that Chelsea have been leaking so many goals lately, Jose Mourinho is thinking of switching Didier Drogba to centre back. After all, he has been their outstanding player this season and apart from scoring some truly spectacular late goals to save them conceding even more points, he’s done virtually everything else as well – even a spot of ducking and diving.
The only snag is the Special One feels that if Drogba is moved, he hasn’t got anyone good enough to take his place.
So, Chelsea have a centre back crisis because John Terry is injured, they sold Gallas and Huth and the man they bought, Boulahrouz, isn’t up to it. And though Drogba would almost certainly do a good job there, he can’t be shifted because, as the £30 million man Shevchenko continues to demonstrate, there is no adequate replacement up front.
No you can see clearly why the press keep reminding us that Chelsea have tremendous strength in depth. And a terrific manager.
