Wayne’s in a World Class of his Own
How good was Wayne Rooney’s performance against Argentina? How good
is Wayne Rooney? And how much better can he get?
It’s hard to believe this boy is barely 20 years old. He has awesome
pace, genuine courage, formidable power and a superb competitive
instinct. Add to that tremendous technique – including a remarkable
range of passing, powerful shooting and heading ability and a delightful
touch, whether he’s controlling the ball or trying to chip the keeper.
All that has been apparent for some time now and it’s more than
enough to strike terror into opponents – even the Argies. But if
the Argentinians believed they could exploit what they perceived
as Rooney’s fragile temperament they were in for a shock, because
it has been evident in recent weeks that Wayne is fast learning
to control his aggression. And far from damaging his game, as many
who should know better had predicted, he has enhanced it. He is
now a player who has everything and can do everything.
And as long as he stays fit and focused, that includes winning the
World Cup for England.
