Scholes Out for the Season
Manchester United have suffered a major blow to their hopes of a successful run with the grim news that inspirational midfielder Paul Scholes is out for the rest of the season following specialist advice that persistent visual disturbances which he has suffered in his right eye can only be treated by a prolonged period of rest.
And with lingering injury doubts about Alan Smith and John OShea, manager Sir Alex Ferguson has a midfield crisis on his hands and according to reports he may be forced into the transfer market, rather than waiting until the summer to strengthen the United midfield as he had originally planned to do.
With the second leg of the Carling Cup semi-final against Blackburn Rovers looming and important premiership games to follow, it will be difficult to maintain the advantage gained over Liverpool by Rio Ferdinands late winner at Old Trafford.
