United Coast to Victory
Apparently, the 3-0 defeat Wolves suffered in the F.A. Cup at the hands of Manchester United is the heaviest since Glenn Hoddle took over at Molineux.
According to Sky commentator Ian Darke, it was “Wolves’ bad luck to run into Manchester United in this sort of mood.”
No-one could deny that United, with a re-shaped and experimental midfield containing both Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney, gave a thoroughly professional performance. Even the normally selfish (or should that be ‘single-minded’?) Ruud Van Nistelrooy surprised, revealing hitherto unobserved talents as a goalmaker, including a cross for Richardson’s headed goal that was a triumph of vision and technique.
Wolves played some neat football and created a handful of chances, but in the end they must have been relieved to escape a heavier defeat. They were simply outclassed.
