Bruce Gets The Vote
Steve Bruce is a decent man, a real football man – accustomed, in a long and glittering playing career marred only by the extraordinary absence of international recognition, to winning things.
For such a man, watching his team lose 7-0 in an F.A. Cup quarter final was not merely humiliating, it was almost unbearable.
Many thought that the manner of the defeat which Liverpool inflicted upon Birmingham City, and the ease with which the home side appeared to capitulate, must inevitably cost the manager his job.
As it turned out, Bruce was given a vote of confidence, insured even in the event of relegation. But whether this will prove to be a real vote of confidence, or merely the appearance, only time will tell.
