Postponement Suits Arsenal
It’s easy to understand Harry Redknapp’s frustration at referee Mike Riley’s decision to postpone Portsmouth’s home game with Arsenal on account of a waterlogged pitch. The surface would have proved a great leveller and possibly given Pompey their best ever chance of getting a point against the Gunners.
But while Harry was protesting that they played on much worse pitches in his day, Arsene Wenger must have been relieved that, with the prospect of a crucial European Champions League against Juventus at Highbury looming, there would be no fatigue and no risk of further injuries to an already depleted squad.
